For over 80 years Greer Relief has been providing food for those in need in the Greater Greer Area.  In 2009, Greer Relief witnessed a 20% increase in the number of people needing food.  The influx of new clients has challenged food pantry which relies primarily on community food drive donations.  Knowing the great need for food support, Greer Cultural Arts Council has developed a project to assist the Greer Relief with the high demand for food.  The timing of the collaboration fell in line with the upcoming spring performance of “Oliver.” The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Oliver Twist, the protagonist of the story, is a lonely orphan boy born in the workhouse, who after the opening song, “Food, Glorious Food”, states, "Please, sir, I want some more." Robin Byouk, Greer Cultural Arts Council Supervisor, stated, “We are asking everyone who comes to the see show to please bring non-perishable food items.”  Caroline Robertson, Greer Relief Executive Director indicated, the most needed items are; peanut butter, jelly, rice, noodles and spaghetti sauce.

Oliver performances are April 16th – 18th & April 23rd – 25th.
